they’re humans too
We went into the kitchens of the Golden Temple
it was incredible.
They feed 100,000 people a day for free
The pots they use are bigger than my bathtub at home.
We saw where they cooked the beans and the rice and the vegetables
In the room where they made chapatti there were low tables surrounded by women ranging from probably 9 to 90
They waved us over to join them in rolling out the dough
I went and sat by a younger girl
She told me that everyone there are volunteers
They serve for 40 days in a row
It’s part of their worship to Seva or serve
She hopes that if she serves her wish will be granted
I asked how many times a day Sikhs pray
And she said “well for me, I pray every second.”
Because she really wants that wish
Oh how I want to know her wish
I asked if she reads the scriptures and she told
me not really
But she loves to read novels
And it hit me that these people are very religious and devout
But they’re humans too just like me
And maybe like to read books
just like me
