the ganges goers

The Ganges isn’t even in the geographical area of the countries we visited

But one of our readings must have talked about it

Or our tour guide mentioned it and it made an impression on me

And I thought about it when we saw worshippers washing in the water at the Golden Temple in Amritsar pictured here

Millions of people go to Varanasi on the Ganges River every year to wash their sins away in the water.

Why do they go back year after year?

This experience must make an impact in their lives for them to return

Perhaps it is because of their belief in the waters power

And a desire so strong to be cleansed from sin that they travel across the world each year

Is my desire to be cleansed from sin that grasping?

Am I going to Christ to be cleansed each year? Each week? Each day?

I would love to harness the earnestness of the Ganges goers.
